Fact one… Aloof.. most Cane Corso breeders use this word to describe Cane Corso’s who are lacking in confidence. A dog who is insecure is reactive and apprehensive. Aloof is a terrible way to describe a demeanor. It can be left open to one’s opinion. The true meaning of this word should describe a dog who is content and happy, who does not react until a “real” threat has been established or displayed.
When looking for a Cane Corso Breeder you want to see happy dogs who do not show any signs of being uncomfortable or weary. These dogs are lacking in temperament and stability. Which in the long run leads to a dog who cannot go out in public or may be a potential lawsuit. I strongly advise that if and when you are researching the Cane Corso you find a breeder who knows the strengths and weaknesses of their stock. A breeder who has only in mind to breed the safest Cane Corso’s. Not a breeder breeding for physical attributes, or the ability to stay in a kennel and then run around in circles for others to look at but not touch.

Breeding the Cane Corso involves more than just matching up two dogs and having a litter. There are many aspects that must be looked at other than what is apparent to the eye. Looking deep into the dogs character, personality, nerves, and drive is number one in creating a safe and stable litter. You must start with the most solid dogs, and make sure they can reproduce these attributes if not equal too, but better than the breeding pair. Show dogs are not in this category due to the fact that most show breeders are not looking for more than a pretty dog to run in circles and stand. If you look at most pictures of winning show dogs, their tails are tucked which in turn displays a lack of confidence or a weak character. Most people do not understand this, you do not want to end up with a Cane Corso who has a weak will. If the parents are lacking than the puppies will be lacking. Talk to breeders and find out who is telling you honest facts, not the breeder who brags up their dogs to be the best around, but rather safe, stable dogs with the ability to perform some sort of work other than trotting in circles. You do not need to see teeth and spit to think your Cane Corso will protect you. These dogs are lacking in confidence and are putting on a show to keep you away, in their eye’s you are a threat. You want to see a happy dog, who likes people. These are the only dogs that can assess a situation and react accordingly…more to come….
